well, me

finally got my car back
man, it's been a while.
i'll still enjoy a ride with another,
but there's something about that drive with nothing other
than your own choice of music
& your chosen speed.

"i've got a little Honda, it ain't much but it's paid for..."

me, landlady

it's her van, a dinosaur,
i'm driving a dinosaur
but hey it'll get me there.
i haven't driven in months,
so this is certainly enough
to make me happy.
the radio is on,
i'm singing along,
the wind filters in;
it's so good within
my soul.

coworker 4

big guy, drives a nice gray/silver car.
nice car.
i can fit my bike in the trunk.
we talk on the ride to my apartment, morning.
bike tire is flat.
makes me sad.
ah well. i have a ride!
he talks of Delaware
& his hometown there.
says he may visit this weekend. hope he can.
i left my bag in his car. got wrong number.
he contacts me about it, in the afternoon.
he's in Delaware. he'll be back Monday.
well.

landlady

happy she could take me to work.
it's raining again.
always raining.
always
raining.
she never did know how to stop talking,
so she speaks
incessantly.
ah well.
happy she took me to work.
adios.

coworker 3 (again)

returning home.
she asks if I'll call her up after I wake up.
not sure how I feel about that.

coworker 3

she likes to talk when she picks me up.
i'm cool with that.
she drives a black car, with Mustang hubcaps.
it's not a Mustang. i find this funny.
we're talking about unfair practices at work.
union? no way.
complaining? well, what else can you do.
here we are, back at work again.

friend (again)

that green car, Charlotte.
it's the last time I'll see him for quite a while. he's headed off to college tomorrow.
I'm not too fond of this.
of course we'll still be friends.
but we won't be able to go places.
have long conversations.
play console games.
eat!
agh. the tyranny of distance.
farewell for faces, friend.

friend

he's ripping through the countryside as if we're headed to the hospital.
we're not.
i don't even have to be at work for another two hours.
it's an old, green Honda. the family named it Charlotte.
the windows are open, and that rush of wind reminds me of when I was headed home, back to Georgia.
I haven't been there since the first week of March.
wish I could go back soon. alas, I cannot.
we're at my apartment now.

coworker 2

this one was interesting.
it was a green minivan.
the interior was covered in the results of a family being driven back and forth from places.
a keychain that read "Mom's Taxi" hung from the rearview mirror.
a van aptly named!
her husband drove up beside us, returning from work as well. he jokingly taunted her about running the red light in front of us. she laughed and said no way.
he ran the light.
I asked her if he was racing her home.
she laughed and said, "he can have that, I'm not getting a ticket!"
I laughed in reply.
another nice ride.

coworker

this one was scary.
it was a white van, used for his lawncare business.
he drove it like a madman, through the narrow, rain-covered street.
I may have feared for my life.
more than once.
but it was also kind of nice.
the van's lawn-related smell reminded me of my grandfather's shed.
which made my feelings of fear change to happiness.
a nice drive.
